Keep Our Beaches Clean

The Borough of Larne is a haven for marine wildlife, being home to some of the most spectacular coastal habitats in the World! Larne Borough Council is dedicated to keeping these coastal areas safe for the plants and animals that live there.

Litter poses a huge threat to marine wildlife and so, on top of our ongoing litter management programme, we organise extra beach clean ups to involve local communities in keeping their beaches clean.

Council staff and residents of Larne celebrated World Oceans Day in June 2008 on Ballygally Beach with a Big Beach Clean Up and Beach Festival.  Participants were treated to a puppet show, a spectacular appearance from one of the RNLI rescue boats and an art workshop in the Mongolian style home, called a yurt.

If you are interested in joining in with future beach clean ups or if your community would like to adopt a stretch of your local beach, please get in touch with the Biodiversity Officer in Larne.

Next Beach Clean Up:  Sandy Bay on Saturday 19th September at 3pm.
