Connswater Community Greenway

The Connswater Community Greenway will create a 9km linear park through East Belfast, following the course of the Connswater, Knock and Loop Rivers, connecting existing parks and open spaces from the Castlereagh Hills to Belfast Lough.  The project also aims to improve the Connswater River.

Success Stories

Hazelwood Woodland Management Project

Hazelwood is an important area of hazel woodland on the slopes of Cave Hill.  It was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1991.  The site is threatened by Sycamore an invasive non-native species.

New Homes for Frogs and Dragonflies

Common Frog

Belfast City Council has been working with Rivers Agency and the Lagan Valley Regional Park to create wetland habitats in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park.  Through the creation of open water and areas that are only wet for parts of the year, we hope to attract species such as dragonflies, newts and frogs.
