Sand martin mitigation work

Sand martin nesting site

As part of the process of protecting the integrity of the railway network in the North West, a sand martin nesting site was lost where essential sea defence work was carried out. In addition to complying with environmental legislation in managing this issue, Translink took an innovative approach to mitigating against the loss by creating an artificial sand bank.

2009 - An excellent year for Awards

Sustainable Ireland Awards Event

Translink's Biodiversity Project, a partnership between Translink and the Ulster Wildlife Trust, scooped two awards in the autumn of 2009. Sustainable Ireland's annual awards event saw the project being awarded 'Best Biodiversity Project of the Year' and the 'Best Business Improvement' award was given to the project at TIDY Northern Ireland's Coca-Cola Clean Coast Awards.
