Moth Recording Project
In spring 2009, The National Trust Northern Ireland is launching a moth recording project that engages the public in recording 2 key species of moth, and in so doing, contributes to our knowledge, and the conservation of these important species.
The National Trust Northern Ireland is asking members of the public to help us record the distribution of 2 species of Moth, the 6-spot burnet and the cinnabar, wherever they see them. Both of these species can be seen during the day and they are very distinctive. The results of the survey will give us a greater understanding of the distribution of both these declining species, and also indicate where our best grassland habitats are located, as this is where the burnet moth thrives.
Records can be submitted by posting specially designed recording cards (a pdf version is available below) or records can be submitted online on a dedicated webpage (to be developed). The project is supported by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. For more information contact Maurice Turley on 02897512305 or email maurice.turley@nationaltrust.org.uk
